Written deep in the pandemic, the intention is fully in the title. This work was commissioned by Kyle Lutes, and one that I struggled over for months (thinking and doing) until the concept came to me on an evening walk while listening to some of my favorite music (Jacob Collier). I climbed a hill and at the top took in a view, it was not my first time seeing it, yet somehow that evening felt different. I felt more connected with nature, more interested in the stars, more immersed in the sounds I heard around me, and the concept of the experiential self arose to the surface of my thoughts and catalyzed a deep brainstorming and improvising session, leading to a set of chords that just felt good to play and hear.
